Context of Role

This is a paid internship with IPPF's Commercial Sustainability team - a small, ambitious team helping IPPF's Member Associations across Africa, Asia and Latin America achieve long-term financial self-sufficiency.

IPPF is committed to ensuring that internships are accessible regardless of financial background, and the role will be remunerated at least at the minimum wage. The internship is based at IPPF's London headquarters (2 days per week), with flexibility to work partially from home. The internship can start in July, depending on availability.

Role Purpose

Over the duration of the internship, you will contribute across three workstreams: supporting the team's data and analytics infrastructure, helping build the evidence base that tells the story of commercial sustainability in practice, and providing day-to-day operational and administrative support that keeps the team running smoothly. You will work directly with the team manager and gain genuine exposure to how a global organisation uses data to drive strategic decisions.

This internship is well suited to individuals with an interest in global health, international development, or data and analytics who are looking to gain practical experience across a range of project-based, operational, and support-focused work. Candidates may bring relevant academic experience or a demonstrated interest in these areas.

What You'll Gain:

  • Hands-on experience working with real data in a live international development context
  • Understanding of how both mission-driven and commercial organisations operate
  • Exposure to how a global health organisation uses data infrastructure, dashboards, and evidence to drive strategic decisions
  • Direct mentorship from the Financial Business Partner and access to the wider Commercial Sustainability team
  • A concrete output you can point to (a case study, analysis or data contribution)

Deliverables

Data & Analytics

  • Support the testing and quality assurance of the team's Power BI dashboard as it moves toward a live launch: reviewing outputs, flagging inconsistencies, and helping document what works
  • Help clean, organise, and sense-check data submitted by Member Associations, developing a working understanding of how the pipeline operates
  • Contribute to research on how AI and automation tools could further streamline the team's data processes, and help document findings in a practical, accessible format
  • Assist with building and formatting data visualisations or summary outputs to support internal reporting

Evidence & Learning

  • Research how other global health organisations measure and report on commercial sustainability — synthesising findings into a short briefing for the team
  • Support the development of case study materials that illustrate what the data shows about MA performance — translating numbers into accessible narrative
  • Help compile and organise evidence from across the MA portfolio for donor reporting, internal communications, or learning publications
  • Deliver a short output (a briefing note, slide deck, or summary) on a specific research question agreed at the start of the placement

Team Operations & Administration

  • Maintain and update team trackers, SharePoint filing structures, and shared documentation, ensuring information is organised and easy to find
  • Support the coordination of MA submission cycles (sending reminders, logging responses, and chasing where needed)
  • Help prepare materials for internal meetings, including agendas, note-taking, and follow-up action tracking
  • Assist with any ad hoc administrative tasks that arise across the team during the placement period

Essential Skills

We are looking for someone who is curious, organised, and genuinely interested in both data and the mission. You do not need to be a data scientist or a development sector expert, but you should be comfortable working with spreadsheets, willing to learn new tools, able to communicate clearly in writing, and happy to contribute to both operational tasks as well as project-based work.

You might be a good fit if you:

  • Have relevant academic experience or an interest in relevant fields, such as international development, public health, economics, data science, social policy, or a related discipline
  • Are comfortable working with data in Excel and have some exposure to data visualisation tools (Power BI), or are motivated/keen to develop these skills
  • Can write clearly and concisely, and are able to synthesise information from multiple sources into clear and useful outputs
  • Are organised, proactive, and reliable : able to manage your own time across parallel workstreams and follow through on commitments
  • Are comfortable working across a varied workload that includes both substantive project contributions and day-to-day operational support
  • Have an interest in sexual and reproductive health and rights, and motivated by IPPF's mission
